The U.S. Department of Defense publicly claimed that several Chinese firms are aiding the People’s Liberation Army. The companies cited include e‑commerce giant Alibaba, search engine provider Baidu, electric‑vehicle maker BYD, and robotics firm Unitree. The Pentagon’s statement linked the firms to dual‑use technologies that could benefit military capabilities. At the same time, Unitree showcased its G1 humanoid robot at the Humanoids Summit in Tokyo. The demonstration took place on Friday, May 29, 2026, during the multi‑day conference. The summit is scheduled to run through May 29, featuring multiple robotics exhibitors. Photographs of the robot were captured by Bloomberg photographer Kiyoshi Ota. The allegations raise concerns about technology transfer and may prompt further U.S. export controls.
