CERN's Large Hadron Collider Enters Long Shutdown 3 for Upgrades

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, has announced a significant operational change. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), its flagship particle accelerator, is now entering a new phase. This period is officially designated as Long Shutdown 3, or LS3. During LS3, the LHC will undergo extensive maintenance and crucial upgrades. These planned enhancements are designed to improve the collider's performance. The shutdown will prepare the LHC for its next operational run, known as Run 4. This pause is a standard part of the LHC's operational cycle. It ensures the facility remains at the forefront of particle physics research.
